Petition to Blacklist Nyandia Gachago for Misrepresenting the Gen Z Movement and Spreading False Narratives

To: Members of the Diplomatic Corps in Kenya, Donors, Foreign Agencies, and International Bodies

Subject: Urgent Call to Blacklist Nyandia Gachago for Fraudulent Misrepresentation and Defamation of the Gen Z Movement

Authored by: Francis Gaitho

We, the undersigned, call upon the diplomatic corps, donors, foreign agencies, and international bodies to blacklist Nyandia Gachago for her deliberate and unverified claims that Kenyan protests, particularly those driven by the Gen Z movement, are hubs for sexual violence against women.

These accusations, made on Thursday, 26th June 2025, lack credible evidence and appear to be a calculated attempt to discredit a legitimate youth-led movement advocating for economic justice and accountability.

The Gen Z movement represents a grassroots, decentralized effort by young Kenyans to address systemic issues such as government corruption, economic mismanagement, and police brutality.

However, Nyandia Gachago, in collaboration with state-sponsored agents including Boniface Mwangi, has engaged in a disinformation campaign to undermine this movement.

Her actions, coupled with her refusal to substantiate her claims, raise serious concerns about her intentions.

Key Evidence and Concerns:

1.  Unverified Allegations of Sexual Assault:

On 26th June 2025, Nyandia Gachago claimed that unnamed women were sexually assaulted following protests. In response, I, Francis Gaitho, contacted medical professionals with whom we have collaborated since 2022 to address their industrial grievances. These medics conducted inquiries across hospitals but found no record of such victims.

The X post by Nyandia Gachago alleging gang rape

This absence of evidence suggests Gachago’s claims were fabricated to tarnish the Gen Z movement’s reputation.

2.  Refusal to Engage and Blocking of Critics:

Upon requesting Gachago to verify her allegations, she blocked me on social media, as evidenced by my X post dated 29th June 2025.

In a display of disregard for accountability, Nyandia Gachago has resorted to blocking anyone questioning her narrative

This action indicates a deliberate avoidance of accountability and a lack of commitment to pursuing justice, further supporting the view that her claims are part of a strategy to project the protests in a negative light.

3.  State-Sponsored Disinformation Campaign:

Gachago’s actions align with a broader effort led by individuals like Boniface Mwangi, who has embarked on a media tour to fabricate lies about the funding of protest hashtags and the legitimacy of Gen Z demands.

Mwangi is also in shock that a parallel event he arranged on the same day, calling on Kenyans to lay wreaths and submit petitions to parliament was given a wide-berth.

Nation Media Group through its show “Fixing The Nation” has offered two back-to-back shows hosting Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah and activist Boniface Mwangi, all maligning the Gen Z protests of June 25th all because their event of laying wreaths at parliament was boycotted

This suggests a coordinated attempt to derail the movement’s independence and grassroots support.

Our Demands:

We respectfully urge the diplomatic corps, donors, foreign agencies, and international bodies to take the following actions:

1.  Blacklist Nyandia Gachago: Bar Nyandia Gachago from receiving funding, endorsements, or platforms from international organizations due to her role in spreading unverified narratives that harm the reputation of the Gen Z movement.

Her blocking of critics further demonstrates her unwillingness to engage in good faith.

2.  Investigate Disinformation Campaigns: Conduct thorough investigations into the activities of Gachago and her associates, including Boniface Mwangi, to uncover the extent of state-sponsored efforts to undermine the Gen Z movement.

3.  Support the Gen Z Movement: Recognize the Gen Z movement as a legitimate, youth-led effort for economic and social justice. Provide support to genuine activists who uphold transparency and accountability, rather than those exploiting the movement’s momentum for personal or political gain.

4.  Condemn Misinformation: Publicly denounce the use of false allegations, such as claims of sexual violence, to discredit peaceful protests. Ensure that such tactics do not distort international perceptions of Kenya’s youth-led movements.

The Gen Z movement embodies the aspirations of millions of young Kenyans seeking a just and equitable society. We cannot allow Nyandia Gachago and her associates to undermine this movement through deceit and manipulation.

We call on the international community to stand with the people of Kenya, support the Gen Z movement, and hold accountable those who seek to discredit it with fabricated narratives.

Signed,

Francis Gaitho

on behalf of the Gen Z movement.
