Subject: Urgent Call for President William Ruto to Step Down to Avert a Potential Genocide

To the Esteemed Diplomatic Missions in Kenya,

I, Francis Gaitho, a concerned citizen of the Republic of Kenya, humbly address Your Excellencies on a matter of grave urgency concerning the stability and safety of our nation.

In light of recent events, particularly since June 2024, it has become increasingly clear that the continued presidency of His Excellency President William Ruto poses a significant risk to the peace and security of Kenya, with potential ramifications that could affect not only Kenyans but also the interests of your esteemed nations in our country.

Over the past months, Kenya has witnessed an alarming escalation of state-sponsored actions aimed at suppressing peaceful protests, particularly those led by the Gen Z movement.

These actions include, but are not limited to:

1.  Excessive Police Actions: Since June 2024, law enforcement agencies have employed disproportionate force against peaceful protesters, in direct violation of Article 37 of the Kenyan Constitution, which guarantees the right to assemble, demonstrate, and present petitions peacefully, as well as universal human rights principles enshrined in international law, including the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (Article 20).

2.  Allegations of a State-Sponsored Terror Squad: Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has publicly suggested the existence of a clandestine “terror squad” targeting peaceful Gen Z protesters, particularly during the demonstrations on June 25, 2024. This alarming revelation points to a deliberate effort to intimidate and silence dissent.

3.  Macabre Hostilities by Goons: There have been open displays of violence, including harassment, looting, and vandalism by unidentified goons, seemingly orchestrated to discredit and disrupt peaceful protests. These acts undermine the rule of law and threaten public safety.

4.  Discovery of Weapons for a Staged Terrorist Attack: Most recently, the discovery of weapons intended to stage a terrorist attack in Nairobi underscores the dangerous lengths to which certain elements are willing to go to suppress the democratic rights of Kenyans.

These developments, coupled with the growing anger and hostility toward President Ruto’s policies, indicate a deepening crisis.

The response from state agencies and officials, which starkly contravenes both the Kenyan Constitution and universal human rights standards, risks plunging the country into chaos.

As the momentum of the forthcoming protests continues to grow, there is a real and present danger of a calamitous outcome, potentially amounting to a genocide or widespread violence, which would have devastating consequences for Kenya and the region.

Your Excellencies, your nations have long-standing diplomatic, economic, and humanitarian interests in Kenya. A destabilized Kenya would not only harm its citizens but also jeopardize your investments, partnerships, and regional stability.

We therefore implore you to act swiftly and decisively by urging President William Ruto to step down from office. Such a step is critical to de-escalate tensions, restore trust in governance, and avert a catastrophic outcome.

We call upon you to leverage your diplomatic influence to communicate this urgent message to President Ruto and his administration.

The time to act is now, before the situation deteriorates further. By supporting this call, you will contribute to safeguarding the lives of millions of Kenyans and protecting the shared interests of your nations in our beloved country.

Yours in the pursuit of peace and justice,

Francis Gaitho
