The precise motivation for the disabling of the CCTV at Central Police Station by Officer Commanding Station (OCS) Samson Taalam remains shrouded in mystery, fueling widespread speculation and raising profound concerns about the opaque circumstances surrounding the incident.

This lack of clarity has intensified public scrutiny, especially given recent reports of systemic issues within the station, where allegations of human rights abuses and questionable police conduct have long persisted.

The absence of recorded footage from the CCTV system, which was interfered with according to preliminary findings by the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA), has only deepened suspicions of a cover-up, particularly as investigations into the death of Albert Ochieng unfold.

This development has prompted calls for transparency from human rights groups and the general public, who are demanding answers about what transpired during Ochieng’s detention.

Verified reports indicate a disturbing sequence of events following Ochieng’s booking at the station.

After being formally processed, he was unexpectedly removed from custody later that evening and transported to the private residence of Eliud Langat, the Deputy Inspector General of Police, who had initiated Ochieng’s arrest over defamatory social media posts.

At Langat’s home, Ochieng was subjected to a brutal assault by Langat himself alongside a group of his associates or hired enforcers. The severity of the beating left Ochieng in a critically injured state, barely clinging to life, before he was returned to the custody of OCS Samson Taalam.

This transfer raises troubling questions about the involvement of senior police officials in what appears to be an extrajudicial act, far removed from standard procedure or legal oversight.

It was only after Ochieng’s return to Central Police Station, when his condition had deteriorated to a life-threatening level, that authorities belatedly decided to seek medical attention.

This delay has drawn significant criticism, with conflicting police accounts further complicating the narrative, some claiming he died upon arrival at Mbagathi Hospital, while others indicate he passed away at the station itself.

Ultimately, medical personnel pronounced him dead on arrival, a outcome that has sparked outrage and protests across Kenya.

The timing of the medical intervention, coupled with the disabled CCTV and the involvement of high-ranking officers, indicates a possible attempt to obscure the chain of events, leading many to question whether this was a premeditated act to silence Ochieng, a vocal social media commentator known for critiquing governance and police misconduct.

The lack of accountability, combined with the interdiction of Taalam and other officers pending investigation, underscores the urgent need for an independent and thorough inquiry to uncover the truth behind this tragic incident.

The #OccupyStateHouse2025 Movement Is Still On

Following the extrajudicial killing of Albert Ojwang, Kenyans have pledged to march to State House to address the root causes of this crisis head-on.

It has not escaped the public’s attention that one of the key issues Ojwang highlighted in his tweets was the staggering 52 billion shillings amassed through extortion and bribes. This illicit revenue, extracted from legitimate businesses, matatu cartels, and the notorious “alcoblow” roadblocks, is allegedly funneled directly to William Ruto.

Eliud Langat carried out this egregious act with the tacit approval of the outgoing president, fully aware of the protection he enjoys from higher authorities.

The march to State House is underway, with Kenyans determined to put an end to this corruption and abuse once and for all.
